Songs I Love: Cool Kids and Rather Be

Hey guys look I’m writing about music again that isn’t just a review of a concert I went to. I haven’t done that in awhile. I don’t know why, but there haven’t been a lot of songs grabbing me this year that I have felt really compelled to share for whatever reason. I am however enjoying a couple of pop songs that have been getting a decent amount of airplay.

“Cool Kids” by Echosmith

Other this song on the radio I didn’t know anything about Echosmith until right this very moment when I looked up information on them for this blog post. Turns out the band is composed of 4 siblings, 3 brothers and a sister ranging in age from 15 to 21. Or at least they were those ages the last time someone updated their Wikipedia article). We only do the highest quality research here at More Than Meh. I guess it now makes a lot of sense why they’re singing about wanting to be like the cool kids, which is a very teenager thing to think about. Let’s face it these lyrics are not very high concept and extremely repetitive, but no matter. It’s a very catchy song and I like it. Isn’t that pretty much what pop music is all about.

“Rather Be” by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne

Clean Bandit is a British electronica group. That makes a lot of sense to me too as this song totally reminds me of the pop dance music that was being played in the late 90s on British radio when I was studying abroad in London. I was immediately transported back to that time when I heard this song for the first time, so it’s no surprise to me that that is where they are coming from. The song has a great beat, and I love Jess Glynne’s voice . In a summer that has had a dearth of pop songs I’ve liked I’m happy this one has come around.
