I’m not sure why the internet hates Lana Del Rey so much, but they very much do. In fact the first I ever heard about Lana Del Rey was all the backlash against her performance on Saturday Night Live almost 2 years ago. Turns out I kind of had heard of her as WXPN had been playing one of her songs I just didn’t realize that who it was by at the time. I don’t watch Saturday Night Live, and based on what I heard about it I’m still not sure what prompted so much vitriol. Anyway, some more Lana Del Rey bashing (not about this particular song) was going on in my Twitter feed this morning, which made me think I should post something about her because I do in fact like her music.
She’s started to get a lot of play on pop radio recently with the Cedric Gervais Remix of Summertime Sadness. In all honesty until I went to write this post I didn’t realize it was a remix that was getting radio play. The original version seems much to slow to me now. I’ve been enjoying this song though. It’s got a great beat to drive to, and in my head I’m pretending it’s about how sad I am that summer is over even though it’s really not.
So whatever internet haters. I’ll like whatever music I want to like and I like this.
