Love Songs

I recently wrote about sad songs that were somehow making me happy. Lest you think I perversely only take pleasure in melancholy things today I present to you three love songs that are making me happy. There are of course many love songs out there, but I like the way these three go together because they are all about someone’s life being better purely because the other person is in it. I’m also appreciating the fact that these three songs come from 3 different musical genres.

First up, Marc Broussard’s Lucky a lovely little song with influences of folk rock, R&B, and indie pop. I just discovered this song recently even though it’s a couple years old, but I am in love.

“It’s such a simple thing,
but it’s so beautiful
that you’re mine, I’m yours.”

Next up, is Simply Amazing by Trey Songz, a great pop R&B ballad. This song makes no qualms about both members of the relationship being less than perfect, but together they are amazing.

“Cause she ain’t perfect, but she’s worth it
Every breath I breathe for the life of me
And I know I might not deserve it
But she loves me, and it’s simply amazing (you are)”

Finally, let’s throw a little country in the mix with Blake Shelton’s God Gave Me You. I adore the theme of this song. Too often we’re presented in pop culture with the idea that love makes everything perfect and that if we can only find love life will just be grand. That of course is completely false, but certainly having someone you love there to help weather the storms of life is a wonderful gift.

“Cause God gave me you for the ups and downs
God gave me you for the days of doubt
And for when I think I’ve lost my way
There are no words here left to say, it’s true
God gave me you”
