Midnight City by M83 is one of those songs that I didn’t fall in love with the first time I heard it, but it didn’t take long for it to become one of my favorite songs of the year. It has that crazy awesome hook that just pulls you into the song and won’t let you go. I’m also partial to it because it evokes some of the music from previous times in my life. It reminds me a lot of Erasure, who I was a big fan of back in the day. Also the saxophone that becomes very prominent at the end of the song is very reminiscent of the saxophone found in much of late 70s and early 80s rock, but which you don’t really ever hear anymore. It’s kind of a mash up of two earlier but entirely unrelated genres of music and I dig it.
