I’m pretty sure Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is my favorite Christmas song, and you can’t beat the original version sung by Judy Garland in the movie Meet Me in St. Louis. There is a particular distinction that separates this song from most of its covers, which is the line “Until then we’ll have to muddle through somehow” instead of the less sad but not nearly as meaningful adaptation “Hang a shining star upon the highest bough”. I much prefer the original lyrics and give extra props to anyone who covers this song with the original lyrics intact, especially since it doesn’t happen that often.
